Forty years ago, you couldn't flip through a comic book without running into Charles Atlas. He was the guy who kicked sand in some skinny kid's face. And for me? That image was everywhere.
See, a friend of my dad's used to buy certain comics the day they hit the stands, then hand them down to me. I was inundated.
Between the superheroes saving the universe, there was this black-and-white ad—a bully on the beach, a weakling losing his girl, and then… transformation. The "97-pound weakling" becomes the hero!

I found a color version! It's very rewarding to look back at the positive influences in our culture!
